Tour Highlights

Old Cromwell Town Tour

Prepare to be captivated by the charming buildings, delve into its rich gold history, and learn about its demise due to the construction of the Clyde Dam.
Our tour begins with a visit to the remnants of old Cromwell Town. As you step foot into this historic site, you'll be transported back to the gold rush era and witness the allure of the past. Marvel at the well-preserved buildings that still stand today, serving as a testament to the town's once-thriving economy.
While strolling through the streets, our knowledgeable guide will regale you with fascinating stories about the area's gold mining history. Cromwell, like many other towns in the region, experienced a boom during the Gold Rush of the 1860s. You'll learn about the brave pioneers who flocked to the area in search of fortune and the struggles they faced during their quest for gold.
But, unfortunately, the gold rush was not meant to last forever. The construction of the Clyde Dam marked a pivotal moment in Cromwell's history. As the waters of the Clyde River were harnessed to generate hydroelectric power, the old town was permanently altered. The flooding that accompanied the dam's completion in the 1980s led to the relocation and destruction of many buildings and homes.
